Tasting note: Cambus is a Diageo owned distillery that's recently been marketed with some impressive age statements. This one's a 'late middle ager'. Bright gold. Beyond the opening whiffs of modelling glue, rum-like aromatics come to the fore: Peppermint rock lollies, vanilla fudge, bounty bar and drier scents of oak shavings. A cross between Irish Pot Still and gold rum, the palate delivers medium-sweet; vanilla, caramel fudge and banoffee pie flavours before turning gently bitter, with butterscotch, cocoa and raw sugar. Big ABV yet remarkably tame and accessible. 60.6% Alc./Vol. 515 bottles drawn from a sherry butt.
