The highest tier of Douglas Laing's current collection is the XOP (Xtra Old Particular) label. These are the “family jewels”, each release being a one of a kind, all natural whisky.

Distilled in 1990 and bottled August 2015 from a refill hogshead (DL10878), this is Macallan as few will have experienced it before, non chill filtered and natural colour (official distillery bottlings are typically chill filtered). The price/age ratio on this release is quite exceptional - plus it's cask strength at 49.7% Alc./Vol. The presentation is another highlight - the whisky comes handsomely packaged in a wax-dipped bottle with dovetailed wooden box and its own individually numbered certificate. 279 bottles are on offer worldwide. Please note: slight cracks in the bottle's wax seal are not uncommon. This is not a packaging fault.

Tasting notes from the bottler... The nose is fresh and clean initially, warming to flambéed banana, syrup and burnt sugar. On the palate, that banana is still there! Plus mellow honey, toffee and a crunched sugar quality. The finish is gently spiced and subtly fructiferous, showing now apples, barley and molasses.
