Glenfarclas reveals its wild side! If your preference is for robust, sherried styles, then look no further. The prices are remarkable. These won't last long.
The Glenfarclas Distillery, with over 50,000 casks currently maturing in its traditional dunnage warehouses, is in the enviable position of having stock in cask from every year from 1952 to the current day. The distillery formally launched 'The Family Casks', an exclusive collection of 43 vintage dated single cask whiskies in September 2007 and since then the interest in the range has been intense, with several collectors (and bars) quick to order a complete set. We are fortunate to be able to offer a very small quantity of the 1988 vintage for sale in Australia at a remarkable direct import price. (Note: these whiskies are vintage, then cask No. specific. More than one cask may be released under the one vintage so refer to cask numbers if you're searching for specific reviews).
The Family Cask prices have been steadily increasing over the last few years, especially in emerging Asian markets. Word has it that demand has been so strong that Glenfarclas have even stopped issuing tasting notes for the various casks. Instead, they literally reserve every last drop for the whisky market. Several vintages are increasingly rare even in the distillery’s warehouses and may represent their final stocks.
This Winter 2015 edition was distilled in 1988 and bottled in 2015 at 52.7% Alc./Vol. from a refill Sherry cask (no.1512).
Other reviews... Curiously coastal - akin to the old Hoggies I used to sample at Bunna in the early 80s. Fabulous saltiness to the old Dundee cake...; a slight dollop of heather honey for good measure; that honey shows early as does the salt.... Late malt offers a grassy alternative to the grape. G is for juicy...F is for Fruity. 93.5 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2016
