Westland matures this whiskey in casks that began their lives in the deep forests of the American South before making a long journey across the ocean and back again. It was in Spain where the oak was first bent into staves for casks that would hold Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry for nearly a century. Once emptied, they were given new life and purpose in the skilled hands of Rafael Cabello and his team at Tonelería del Sur in Montilla, Spain.

Tasting note: Bright gold. Unusual aromas of fresh prune, fruit mince pie and a trace of sulphur. Svelte textured with flavours of cream tea biscuits, fruit cake and a touch of dried apricot to finish. Ends mildly spicy, fresh, with ginger biscuit and sweet spices returning late in the aftertaste. Medium long. 46% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... ...Bright amber color. Bright, creamy, toasty, fruity aromas of peach custard pie, butter roasted nuts, leather, and chocolate toffee with a silky, lively, fruity medium-to-full body and a warming, very long dried fruits, baking spices, minerals, and pepper finish. A robust and flavor packed single malt.

A jammy, inviting nose features blackberry jam, raisin, apricot, and ginger. On the palate it’s a cacophonic mess: chocolate and peated malt clash and do battle to grab focus. Add some heavy char and sherry to the mix and it's a bloodbath.
