The fourth in Westland's 'Native Oak' series features Quercus garryana (Garry oak), a species native to the Pacific Northwest. Although other traditional barrels are used to age this 100% barley American single malt, including ex-rye and ex-bourbon, the focus is on new and refill Garry oak and Pedro Ximenez (sweet) sherry casks. 3750 bottles were on offer for the 2019 edition with a fraction of that allocated to Australia. Reportedly, 4|1 is one of the harder to find releases and is considered collectible.

Other reviews... The nose says gentle and light: banana cream pie, Nilla wafer, lemon custard, bubble gum, pineapple soda, blanched almonds, white flowers, pistachio, and graham cracker crust. But the palate is rich and robust, with nuts, tobacco, mocha, gingerbread, and vibrant spice to counter the banana, almond, and vanilla-chocolate shake sweetness. The finish is short but satisfying, with spiced pecans, cigar, semi-sweet chocolate, and mocha. 50% Alc./Vol.
