$1199.88 Dozen
ABV: 57.9%
Tasting note: [2019 release] The Templeton brand has a colourful heritage dating back to the 1920s when residents of the small town of Templeton distilled a sought-after rye. Forced underground during Prohibition, the brand was born again 2006 with the launch of three variants. All are sourced whiskeys distilled by MGP in Indiana. This is the cask strength version, made from an annual selection of noteworthy barrels, varying in age. Although the mash bill isn't declared, it presents the same soft nose-feel found in its lower ABV / 95% rye siblings - with a little extra pepper heat. It's more full-flavoured too. There's an underlying vanilla sweetness that tempers the sharpness you associate with high strength ryes, but the finish rallies with bitter dark chocolate, apple mint, white pepper and oak shavings. Well balanced uncut, so try it straight first. 57.9% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... Top notes of spearmint and green apple part to reveal deeper nuances of golden raisin, saddle leather, varnish, and pine resin that suggest some maturity. Bright apple meets blazing spice on the palate, reminiscent of applesauce cake or warm spiced cider. The finish really soars, adding layers of tropical fruit and toasted banana-nut bread and licorice.
