The world-famous Strathisla Single Malt Scotch whisky is the foundation of the CHIVAS REGAL blend. In order to secure supply of this exceptional malt whisky, Chivas Brothers, in 1950 purchased Strathisla. Today, guests can take a unique, self-guided tour through Strathisla, the oldest distillery in Scotland's north (Est. 1786), where they can see the workings of a traditional malt whisky distillery and ask the distillery staff about the skills and traditions of malt whisky production. Meticulous restoration has returned this wonderful distillery to its original character, and within the courtyard buildings, Scotland's leading architects and craftsmen have recreated Strathisla's elegance. Strathisla twelve year old is a medium weight, dry and very well balanced whisky with sherry like undertones.

Other reviews... Orangish amber hue. Muted honeysuckle and black walnut aromas. A smooth entry with leads to faintly sweet, medium-bodied malt palate that develops with light waves of charcoal and peat. Finishes in a spicy, oaky manner. 43% alc./vol.

Nose: Fragrant with citrus (orange peel), flowers (freesia), spice, and a hint of cream-filled choux pastry. Juicy! Water pulls out more weighty malty notes. Palate: Lovely mid-weight malt that's softer than the nose initially suggests. Great momentum in the mouth with cranachan, soft baked fruits, fruit cake, syrup, apricot and malt. It dances on the tongue. Finish: Bursts into life. Comment: Charming, subtle and gorgeous. RATED: 8.25 /10 - David Broom, www.whiskymag.com
