Pol Roger Reserve Brut Champagne
A big house cuvee that delivers an authentic Champagne experience.
Pol Roger’s non vintage Brut Reserve is a blend in equal parts of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay sourced from 30 different crus. It also includes 25% reserve wines.
Pours with a frothy mousse that shows good hold. Pale straw coloured with pale gold edges, the base is finely threaded by a steady stream of tiny bubbles. The nose offers up a classic Champagne sniff with baked bread and yeast lees aromas to the fore. Oily toast like notes, cashew and light citrus are also evident. Rich yeasty baked bread, pear and citrus flavours have an airy feel across the palate underscored by elements of toast and cashew. Gently creamed in its texture, it finishes dry and crisp with a long refined aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
One of my favourite champagne houses. This entry point has one-third each of pinot noir, pinot meunier and chardonnay from 30 crus, 25% reserve wines, spending 4 years on tirage. It has a flowery bouquet, terrific mouthfeel thanks to a hint of honey, and Meyer lemon cleansing the finish and aftertaste.
