Overeem Distillery Muscat Cask Finish Single Malt Whisky (700ml) - 48.5%

New for 2022, this five year old port and sherry cask matured malt was finished in a muscat barrel for its final three years. It succeeds in capturing the fortified character without being flattened by the sweetness of the wine. Given enough air, muscat-forward aromas gather definition as raisins, dates and butter bread develop; the palate echoes that - arguably with more muscat than port - but unlike many a PX matured malt, for example, it's not dead sweet. There's a nice textural build up of dried fruits, chocolate and spices and the finish lingers briefly before trailing off with orange zest, balancing astringency and heat. High ABV and zero chill filtration ensure there's no shortage of flavour. 48.5% Alc./Vol.
