Kinglake Distillery O'Grady's Stand Full Noise Cask Strength Single Malt Australian Whisky (500ml)
After enthusiastic customer feedback for their cask strength inaugural release, ‘Full Noise’, the crew at Kinglake decided to make it part of their core range. Delivering the same distinctive spirit and ex-Bourbon finish sweetness of their 'OG' whisky, this is bottled straight from stand-out barrels only - namely 50 litre Makers Mark bourbon 'octaves'. The mash-bill consists of three different malts, grown and kilned in New South Wales, together with malt from the Scottish borders in the UK. The cuts are deep to give the heavy, oily spirit Kinglake desires. 60.1% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Colour: gold. Nose: some mango and banana cake straight from the oven, drizzled with some meadows honey and some liquid fudge. Then crème brûlée. The additional watts are absorbed without flinching, quite the opposite. With water: very proud, we managed to reproduce the one at 46% vol. Don't laugh, that's absolutely not always the case. Mouth (neat): I think the oak's better handled, while some more chilli would come out too. Other than that, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric and nutmeg keep running the show. With water: even at the same strength of 46% vol. (roughly), there's something extra, perhaps more citrus? The spicier smokiness is there too. Finish: long, same. Comments: I like them also because they're true to their raw ingredients. 86 points - whiskyfun.com
