Whereas some distilleries purchase bulk spirit as a base for their gins, Domaine Asmara small batch distill using their estate-grown fruit. Varietals include Shiraz, Grenache, Durif, Cabernet Franc and in this expression, Cabernet Sauvignon. Tasted against its Shiraz sibling, this is slightly drier, perhaps indicative of a higher tannin content, the profile coming close to a good Rosso Vermouth; Fresh aromatics conjure mulberries and semi-ripe blackberries with stewed red fruits emphasised on the creamy palate. The gin base spirit provides a citric backbone and contributes herbal complexity. Delicious over ice, but also lends itself to experimentation. 40% Alc./Vol.
