Glen Scotia Campbeltown Malts Festival Limited Edition 9 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
One of a series of special bottlings for the Campbeltown Malts Festival, each subject to a different maturation. This edition saw unpeated spirit finished in Fino sherry casks for a minimum of six months. The result is a vibrant and youthful whisky, brimming with notes of lemon citrus, orchard fruits and oak spice. The bottle also features a QR code with a short multimedia story ("Sound of Glen Scotia") designed to bring the atmosphere of the distillery and the festival to life. 56.2% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered.
Other reviews... Class act again from GS for the festival release… real quality taste and texture as with other years! The improvement from “disco cows” era has to be recognised! Nose- sweet, honey, vanilla, subtle citrus and salinity. “Hand rub” malt smell is very warming. Taste- surprisingly light for 56.2%, citrus comes through more. Raisins there along with pleasant spice. No water required, not feeling any burn. GS have a great ability to demonstrate quality in both peated and unpeated spirit. Personally go for peated whisky as preference but this is a beautiful drinking whisky and I’m glad I have 2 bottles! - whiskybase.com
...You’ll say it was high time we gave this one a proper go, at least before the Campbeltown Malts Festival 2025! Colour: white wine. Nose: clearly in the same ballpark as the Maclean, though a little less defined and cheerful, showing more paraffin, modelling clay and leafy greenery. Could that be the fino influence? With water: bread dough, fresh sawdust, baker’s yeast. Mouth (neat): same general remarks, the casks do make themselves known, but the fruitiness persists. Plenty of apples and a slight earthy, twiggy side. With water: it takes water well, bringing out liquorice and lemon zest. Very nice bitterness too (liquorice wood, ginseng). Finish: fairly long, youthful, with the sherry rounding off the whole ensemble. Comments: very pleasant indeed, just lacking the Maclean’s sense of ‘clear line’. 84 points - whiskyfun.com
