El Tequileno Still Strength 100 Proof Blanco Tequila (750ml)

El Tequileno's 100-proof blanco is the latest addition to the small but growing ranks of higher-proof tequilas. 'Still strength' ABVs can vary depending on the distillery and production methods. The key point of difference is that they're bottled without dilution. We're also informed that (legally) tequila cannot be bottled at more than 55% ABV, so this is nearing the limits. While Still Strength offerings are geared to meet a soaring demand for innovative releases, even in a massive tequila market like North America they remain a relatively small category. At the time of writing, only about thirty expressions are available. In our experience, the higher ABV makes a world of difference, elevating Blanco tequila to another level of intensity and flavour. Made by third-generation Master Distiller, Jorge Antonio “Tony” Salles at NOM 1108, this release is also notable for being bottled non-chill filtered with zero additives.

...At 100 proof, this is certainly much stronger than your average bottle of Patron or Espolon, but it’s not too boozy to sip neat or use in a cocktail. The higher proof adds some heat to the palate, but doesn’t overwhelm the notes of cooked agave, citrus, pepper, vanilla, and roasted nuts, culminating in a warming finish on the back of your throat.
