Edradour and its offspring Ballechin have become quasi-cult whiskies after only fifteen or so years of ‘new’ ownership. Will they go the same path as Springbank? Time will tell. Peated to around 50ppm, Ballechin first appeared in 2006. A fifteen-year-old was launched in Germany for Kirsch Imports in mid 2021. This is it - the very first release limited to 3126 bottles. As a point of difference to the sherry-heavy Ballechins in this consignment, this one's made from a vatting of first-fill Bourbon barrels and second-fill oloroso sherry butts. It's always nice to taste good peated malt without too much wine cask influence to gain a better insight into the distillate, which is no doubt why Kirsch selected this mix. 59.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
