Buffalo Trace Distillery’s annual Antique Collection (aka 'BTAC') hasn’t had a new addition to the lineup since 2006, when Thomas H. Handy joined the portfolio. That changes as of 2025 with Colonel E.H.Taylor added to an esteemed list of names in the collection with historical significance to American Whiskey. As Whisky Advocate explain, "Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor was an integral player who shaped both the bourbon industry and the Buffalo Trace Distillery. Often dubbed the “Father of Modern Bourbon,” it was Taylor who, in 1869, upgraded his Old Fire Copper (O.F.C.) Distillery (now Buffalo Trace Distillery) with copper fermentation tanks—they produced a cleaner and more desirable spirit—better grain equipment, and even a revolutionary steam-heating system used inside the barrel warehouses. Taylor was at the front of the push for the 1897 enactment of the Bottled in Bond Act, which put in place a number of production and storage standards aimed at protecting the consumer. The byproduct of all of this: Taylor’s whiskey was superior and highly sought-after (some things never change)."

The new release falls in line with the original presentation of the other BTAC whiskeys, bearing Taylor's elegant signature on the front, each one hand-bottled at 100 proof to meet U.S. Bottled-In-Bond standards. Official tasting notes describe "warm vanilla, seasoned oak, charred undertones, and a drizzle of maple sweetness" on the nose, while the palate offers "...balanced sweetness and baking spices with a gentle wood note. The lingering finish carries oak and vanilla into soft caramel with a hint of cherry." 50% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... The inaugural Antique Collection release of E.H. Taylor Bottled-In-Bond Bourbon is an expertly balanced, 15 year old expression that stays true to the E.H. Taylor brand's core attributes of drinkability and precision. After years of rumors, Buffalo Trace finally expanded its Buffalo Trace Antique Collection this year. Though many thought it might be the cult favorite Elmer T. Lee or the ultra-popular Blanton’s that would get the promotion, it makes sense that E.H. Taylor gets its due. The company has given the brand a renewed focus over recent years, with a new limited release bestowed upon it on a near-annual basis. The inaugural Antique Collection batch of E.H. Taylor Bottled-In-Bond Bourbon is anything but simple in its construction. Handpicked barrels from six warehouses and six different floors suggest the blenders behind this batch had a flavor profile goal in mind they hoped to achieve. Age also plays a role, which isn’t typically a major factor in E.H. Taylor releases, and a 15 year, 4 month age is not only impressive, it's a treat for any long time fans of the brand. - breakingbourbon.com
