Chateau de Laubade Signature Armagnac (700ml)

Laubade's 'Signature' moves away from typical Armagnac notes of dates, prunes and wood spices, leaning this towards a young French brandy. The shy aromas are almost winey and floral for the genre, although there's better definition on the palate where dried peach and subtle fruit cake notes come through. An injection of oak adds vanilla and warming spice to the finish. It feels slightly light-on for Armagnac, but this easy-going, vibrant 'contemporary' style would work as an aperitif. It was partly aged in barrels used to mature dry white wines from the Lesgourgues family's Graves property in Bordeaux - which goes some way to account for the profile. 42% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Quite perfumed and floral, this is a fresher, brighter spirit with more fruit evident on the nose. It’s also noticeably hotter on the tongue, though it’s still quite gentle, which helps to focus one’s attention on the bigger, brighter florals in the mix. Violets are curiously strong here, and the caramel character is more aggressive.
