Releasing small amounts of its own bourbon since 2019, Bardstown Distillery has quickly earned a place as one of the most exciting new producers in Kentucky. This high-rye six year old was 'love at first taste' and a unanimous choice for the Whisky Hunt crew, standing out for being "...super balanced, with a fudgey, clean caramel richness that just coats your palate." Produced from a mashbill of 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malted barley, the nose offers a classic bourbon sniff, rich with caramel, vanilla bean, orange-filled dark chocolates and hints of peppermint, mirrored on the palate with the addition of a little peach nectar. Fine chewy tannins control the sweetness, keeping the delivery taut and structured. Cocoa, a puff of smoke and subtle rye mintiness wrap up the finish in style. Notes from the importers... ... Aroma: Oak and orange zest upfront, with layers of brown sugar and light tobacco. Palate: Stone fruits and orange peel lead, followed by oak and brown sugar. A touch of barrel char adds depth, while a Werther’s-style caramel note softens and rounds everything out. Finish: Long, coating, and gently warming, with lingering caramel and spice.
