Ancho Reyes Ancho Chile Liqueur (700ml)

MEXICO
$89. 99
Bottle
$1079.88 Dozen
ABV: 40%
Made with ancho chiles (aka dried poblano chiles) according to a recipe for a similar spirit enjoyed back in 1920s Mexico. One of very few chile infused beverages to hit the market.

Tasting note: Deep copper penny colour with some sediment evident. Unusual aromas of Thai-chilli sauce, sliced zucchini and mild wasabi, but neither prickly or hot. Palate is more convincing - true to style with semi-sweet chilli-sauce flavours and genuine heat. Finishes broad, slightly flat, with hints of cinnamon and lingering chile pepper warmth. 40% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Though it's made with ancho chiles, this liqueur is modest on the spice scale. Caramel-y brown in the glass, look for a lightly herbaceous aroma similar to root beer and rounded flavors that mix caramel and cocoa with raisin and cinnamon heat, with a faint smokiness on the finish. Particularly harmonious mixed in cocktails with brown spirits like whiskey.
