23rd Street Distillery Australian Whisky (700ml)
Twenty Third Street's 'Australian' expression begins with a blend of locally grown barley malts. The wash is distilled through the distillery's historic Copper Pots stills with a focus on intensifying the natural flavours and sweet oils, then separated for maturation into ex-Bourbon casks and a small number of Tawny Port barrels. The warmth of the Riverland climate tempered by a well-insulated barrel hall sees maturation progress for a minimum of two years. Blending of archive portions adds further depth before bottling. This is another whisky that challenges imported brands, adding breadth to the local industry. Look for suggestions of vanilla malt, Summer pudding, citrus oils and crisp, peppery oak spices in a medium bodied and very approachable dram. 40% Alc./Vol.
