2025 Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown Obstgarten K Riesling
King Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA
Founded by viticulturist/winemaker Tessa Brown and architect Jeremy Schmölzer, they are arguably the gold standard for contemporary Germanic-inspired winemaking in Victoria. Their Obstgarten Rieslings unapologetically borrow the German Prädikat framework (Trocken, Kabinett, and Spätlese), capturing high-altitude alpine acidity with delicate residual sugar balance.

Crushed whole fruit, pressed to tank, wild ferment; 21g/L RS. This has a playful sugar/acid exchange that dances bright, bringing a pastille, mineral-like sparkle and raising the bar on off-dry riesling. Sweet basil, apple, lime, citrus zest, wet slate and hints of ginger light up the aroma. Seamless on the palate and running super crisp and tangy bright with highlights of lemon pastille and candied citrus. Good intensity, impressive balance, meticulous handling and mighty juicy delicious. Drink 2026-2038.
