2025 Nicola Bergaglio Gavi Rovereto
Intensely flavoured and texturally mouth filling with crisp, refreshing acidity and a long saline laced finish.
Since 1946 Gianluigi Bergaglio has grown Cortese on his 18-hectare estates near the town of Gavi. Cortese the grape is indigenous to this area and has not scientifically been linked to any other grape variety in the world, it is truly regional. Most of the 3000 hectares of the grape are planted around the town of Gavi in the southeast of Piedmont, in the province of Alessandria, along the Lemme river. Vines are planted on hills with calcareous soil composition like most parts of Piedmont.
Brilliant very pale straw colour with green tinged edges and a watery hue. Filling the nostrils are aromas of pineapple, guava, pear and green apple which are complimented by some fresh herb and slatey mineral notes. Delicious pear, guava, lime and green apple fruits show admirable intensity and textural volume across the palate with infusions of Mediterranean herbs and stony mineral elements lying underneath. Crisp refreshing acidity with a salinity running across the long, mouth watering finish.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
