2025 Gembrook Hill Pinot Noir IJM

Founded in 1983, Gembrook Hill is one of the Upper Yarra Valley's benchmark estates, planted on a cool, elevated site with volcanic soils that naturally lend themselves to producing fine-boned, ageworthy wines. Over four decades on, the estate has become a reference point for the region, with wines built on clarity, restraint, and a deep sense of place.

Created in honour of late founder Ian James Marks following his passing in 2017, the Gembrook Hill 'IJM' Pinot Noir is an ultra-limited, pure expression of the estate's Yarra Valley terroir. Crafted from a combination of the property's oldest and youngest MV6 vines and aged in old French oak, it serves as a symbol of cyclic renewal and the family's enduring winemaking legacy. 30 dozen only produced.

From a small block of MV6 planted in 2014 and another equally small block containing the oldest pinot vines on the property. 100% destemmed. Medium, bright ruby. This has the perfume and complexity of the Gembrook Hill '25 Pinot Noir but with an extra degree of concentration. Aromas of red and black fruits, dark rose, underbrush and spice lead onto a richly flavoured, beautifully structured palate. Destined to age superbly. Only 30 dozen produced.

This presents the perfect combination of finesse and flavour, with the length to match, and is therefore an elite release. It walks towards power but keeps the mood ethereal, while the fineness of the tannin profile really shows what fineness really is. It tastes of darker cherry flavours, and orange rind, blood orange and woodsy spice, plus the just-there smell of smoke drifting in from a far-off camp. Everything here is quite perfect. Drink 2028-2034+.
