2024 Vinelea Beechworth Chardonnay
Rich, full and creamy textured with a long decadent finish.
Winemaker Stuart Smith produces an old traditional style of Chardonnay that’s big on flavour and texture. In order to impart additional textural richness the wine was lees stirred and underwent 100% malolactic fermentation. The barrels were lees stirred weekly for 6 months, then the wine was racked clean and returned to barrels for another full year. 50% new French oak is used.
Bright yellow straw colour with a watery hue. Engulfing the olfactory senses are heady aromas of ripe peach, cashew, honeycomb and hints of butterscotch trailed by some crème brulee, nougat and spicy bacon fat notes. Rich, concentrated and mouth filling, the opulent palate is flooded with fleshy ripe peach, honeyed cashew and crème brulee flavours. Notions of butterscotch, nougat and spice also chime in. Full and creamy textured, it finishes long and decadent with a lingering spicy cashew and nougat component.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
