Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown is the partnership of winemaker-viticulturist Tessa Brown and architect Jeremy Schmölzer, crafting wines from high-altitude vineyards in Beechworth and the King Valley. Their estate vineyard, Thorley, sits over 700m ASL and is farmed with organic practices in all but the most challenging years. Working with minimal intervention, they focus on purity, balance, and drinkability. The range includes single-site wines from Thorley, Brunnen, and Obstgarten, as well as their approachable Prêt-à series.

Inspired by Austria’s traditional Gemischter Satz, this crisp, dry white blends Pinot Gris, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Sylvaner from several upper King Valley sites. Fermented and assembled to honour the refreshing, food-friendly style, it offers bright acidity, subtle aromatics, and a clean, invigorating finish—an easy-drinking wine with European heritage and a distinctly cool-climate Australian edge.

Other Reviews....
Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Sylvaner and Riesling. Three (upper) King Valley sites.
This is just so impeccable. The perfect amount of texture, the perfect delivery of flavour, the balance and the finish. It does all the basics well, and delivers them in seamless fashion. It presents an orchard of apples, citrus and nashi pear flavours, a spray of herbs, whispers of lychee and white flowers and an all-round squeaky feel. It’s drinking great right now. Drink 2024 - 2028.

Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front

A blend of Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and Sylvaner from three sites in the upper King Valley. There’s a slightly bitter sensibility to the aromas first off, with an opening of preserved lemon, subtle green almond and bitter herbs before being filled out by nashi pear, green apple skin and hay. The mix of fruit and bitterness makes for an attractive aromatic profile. The palate is lively, fresh, taut and linear but with a lovely seamless texture. Fresh fruit notes of pear, apple and lemon at the fore, with some zestiness and subtle herbs notes in support before a clean and bright finish. This is delicious summer drinking, with energy and freshness making for a bargain at $35.
