2024 Shiraz By Farr

Rich, savoury and smoky Northern Rhone styled Shiraz.

Planted in 1994, the original By Farr vineyard is the source of this Shiraz. Set on a north-facing slope with red volcanic soil over limestone and deep sandstone, it delivers fruit of concentration and poise. All grapes are hand-picked from VSP trellising, with a portion of whole bunches included to bring added spice and structure. In most vintages, 2-4% Viognier is co-fermented, depending on timing, adding aromatic lift and a subtle textural edge.

Pitch black heart with a dark red black tinged hue. Intense clove and smoked meat infused aromas of red plum and liquorice sail through the nostrils trailed by some fennel and peppered earth notes. The rich, impressively fleshed, mid weighted palate is flooded with red plum and liquorice fruit which is complexed by notions of smoky vanillin cedar, clove and peppered dried meats. Supple mid palate feel with relatively polished yet underlyingly structured tannins. Excellent depth and power with a long savoury finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
