Sailor Seeks Horse is a tiny vineyard that's one of Australia’s most southerly, located in the Huon valley in southern Tasmania. Owners Paul and Gilli Lipscombe have brought considerable vineyard and winemaking experience to this venture, and they've been producing outstanding Pinot Noir and Chardonnay here for over a decade.

The Huldufolk label is reserved for exceptional parcels of Chardonnay and/or Pinot Noir, and the name means ‘hidden people’ in Icelandic having has its origins in 19th century folklore. 2024 Huldufolk Chardonnay is predominantly 96 clone with a touch of 277.

Other Reviews....
The 2024 Huldofólk Chardonnay features Clones 96 (in majority) and 277, and the wine is nuttier and more savory than the estate Chardonnay tasted alongside. The wine here is mineral and bright on the palate; it has real chew and shape and lingers long after the close of play. The label here is quite different from the estate label: this features a colored painting, so it's easy to differentiate. The fruit is grown in the estate vineyard in Huon Valley, but it's a clonal selection from the middle of the vineyard. Clone 277 contributes salinity, line and length, while the 95 is the richness and texture (wild ferment, full solids in barrel). 13.2% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2026-2036.
