2024 Mount Pleasant Mountain A Medium Bodied Red
Hunter Valley, New South Wales, AUSTRALIA
A savoury, generously fruited Hunter Valley red.
Deep dark red black tinged core with a vibrant purple red hue. Elevated spicy red to dark plum, liquorice and clove scents are intermeshed with earth and peppered dried meat notes. Medium bodied, the palate is generously fruited with juicy red to dark plum, liquorice and more subtle blueberry flavours. Spicy cedar, dried herb, smoked meat and pepper elements linger across the back half. Underlyingly fresh and refined yet concentrated, it has slightly grainy but otherwise polished tannins and a long savoury finish that shows plenty of flesh.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 14%
Other Reviews….
Medium bodied dry red sounds right in my wheelhouse for Hunter Valley, and a good shout from 2024 to find that midway point between lighter and fuller.
This is the stuff. Silky texture, wildly perfumed, all the red berries, the alpine herbs, white pepper, fennel, faint cinnamon and clove for complexity, a sweet earthiness in the mesh of things. The carriage of flavour is superb, the compact, satiny push and seemingly limitless finish delivering a sense of complexity and pedigree in tandem. A little woody bitterness in the mix, but perhaps a quibble in seeking out all the detail here. A very beautiful, succulent, refreshing and poised red. Drink 2026-2040+
