2023 Yeringberg Marsanne Roussanne

Yeringberg is a historic Yarra Valley estate, first established in 1863 and now under the stewardship of the fifth generation of the de Pury family. Once one of the region’s most celebrated vineyards, production ceased in 1921 before being revived by Guill and Katherine de Pury in 1969. Today, winemaker Sandra de Pury leads the winery, working alongside her brother David who manages the vineyard. With some of the oldest vines in the Yarra Valley, Yeringberg continues to produce elegant, age-worthy wines that reflect both heritage and thoughtful custodianship.

From vines planted between 1973 and 1985, the Marsanne and Roussanne were picked together and co-fermented, with partial skin contact, tank fermentation and 10 months' maturation in old oak on light lees, without new oak or malolactic fermentation. The 2023 reflects the freshness of the season, expressed through a fine-boned and savoury house style.

A blend of 61/39% marsanne/roussanne from vines planted between '73 and '85. Unusually both varieties were picked on the same day, before being fermented and matured together. A deep-ish, bright green gold. Complex with aromas of pear, white nectarine, candied ginger and light floral scents. A little more restrained than the '22, this always gently textured wine finishes citrus pithy, chalky and long. Lovely. Drink 2025-2031.

Aromas of lemon confit, beeswax, fresh flowers, stone fruit and honeysuckle. The palate is medium-bodied with a densely packed mouthfeel that is cut through with bright and pure acidity. A really well-balanced blend with a nod to the Old World. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
