2023 Yalumba The Cigar Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
A medium to full bodied Cabernet that impresses with its richness, power and concentration.
Sourced from Yalumba’s famed Menzie’s vineyard, the name ‘Cigar’ is derived from the unique cigar like shape of Coonawarra’s famous terra rossa strip. Maturation takes place in a mix of new (18%) French oak hogsheads, barriques and Hungarian oak hogsheads and one year old American oak barriques with balance in older French, American and Hungarian oak for a period of 17 months.
Pitch black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Pronounced blackcurrant, liquorice and mulberry aromas are complimented by spicy vanillin cedar, tobacco, subtle earthy black olive and bay leaf notes. Medium to full bodied, showing impressive concentration are rich, fleshy blackcurrant, liquorice and mulberry fruits. Vanillin cedar, tobacco, earth and spicy bay leaf accents lend further interest. Beautifully integrated yet sturdily built tannin structure. Possessing admirable power, it has a long, deeply fruited and fluid finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
