2023 She-Oak Hill Estate Heathcote Shiraz

Established in 1975, this little known estate is one Heathcote’s oldest and along with Jasper Hill and Mt Ida was one of the pioneering vineyards of the region. Further plantings were made in 1996, the dry grown vines from both vineyards now well established with deep roots in the mineral rich Cambrian soil. Winemaking is undertaken by the talented Mark Hunter from Sanguine Estate and maturation takes place in French oak barriques for a period of 18 months. The 2023 vintage was produced predominately from the 50 year old vines. Most of the fruit from the younger vines lost to a nomad herd of kangaroos who developed a taste for the delicious Heathcote fruit in the days before harvest.

Impenetrable inky black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Potent blackberry, liquorice and ripe black cherry scents engulf the nostrils followed by some dark plum, vanillin oak, dark chocolate and subtle peppered earth notes. Rich opulent dark plum, liquorice, blackberry and dark chocolate fruits are gorgeously layered across the full bodied palate. Vanillin oak, subtle scorched earth, spicy mocha and pepper elements lie underneath. Power packed it possesses velvet smooth tannins and a long super plush finish.
