2023 Querciabella Mongrana
A juicy mid weighted Tuscan blend that’s energetic and chewy.
Founded in 1974, Querciabella have received widespread critical acclaim for its wines which are located throughout Tuscany’s Chianti Classico and Maremma areas. The first vintage of Mongrana was produced in 2005 with fruit sourced from a range of vineyards located in the Tuscan coastal region of Maremma. All of the vineyards have been biodynamically grown since inception.
A blend of 50% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon the wine is matured in a mixture of stainless steel tanks and cement.
Deep midnight black core with a dark red black tinged hue. Intense red to black currant and red liquorice scents infused with Mediterranean herbs sail through the nostrils trailed by some tobacco, earth, leather and subtle spicy black olive notes. Rich red to black currant, red cherry and liquorice fruits carry a juicy feel across the mid weighted palate. Tobacco, earth, subtle leather, black olive and spicy dried herb elements lie underneath. Bright acidity and chalky tannins counterpoint the fleshiness of the fruit. Concludes long and energetic with loads of fruit and a chewy feel.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews…….
The nose opens with floral, saline aromas of peonies and violets, then turns savory with hot tar and herbs, then finishes sweet with citrus and cherries. Cherries and berries headline the palate, alongside a strong blood orange element and soil strewn with crushed flower petals and herbs. Tannins are very firm.
