2023 Maxwell Silver Hammer Shiraz
McLaren Vale, South Australia, AUSTRALIA
A rich, flavour packed McLaren Vale Shiraz.
Dense inky black colour with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark chocolate aromas waft out of the glass with impressive intensity complimented by vanillin oak, earthy mocha and spice notes along the way. Rich, concentrated and plush, the amply weighted palate is swamped with ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark chocolate and dark plum fruits. Spicy vanillin oak and earthy mocha elements form the under belly. Fantastic depth and power for the price with velvet smooth tannins and a long, opulent finish.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews…..
A core line for Maxwell, named after the Beatles song (which often used to make it into children’s school songbooks, even though the lyrics are somewhat gruesome). All estate fruit, this has some typical generosity, though a fair degree of levity, too. Oak, largely older, is well integrated, adding a little nuttiness and spice to dark berries and plum. It’s a bit up from medium weight, and it drinks so readily, with softly accommodating tannin and nicely resolved, refreshing acidity. This is right in the groove. Drink by 2030.

Marcus Ellis - James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion
Richly fruited and instantly appealing, the wine shows blackberry, mixed spice, potpourri, and assorted nut aromas, followed by a generously expressed palate offering succulent fruit intensity and velvety texture. Upfront and flavoursome with a satisfying finish.
