2023 Juxtaposed Wait Vineyard Old Vine Shiraz
Rich and plush with blueberry like freshness.
Dense midnight black colour with a dark red black tinged hue. Aromas of liquorice, blackberry, blueberry and dark plum fill the nostrils followed by spicy vanillin cedar, fennel and gentle peppered earth notes. Rich fleshy blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits flow across the mid weighted palate with a refined feel. Ensuing are notions of spicy vanillin cedar, earthy fennel and pepper. Showing a blueberry like freshness, it has polished tannins and a plush medium to long conclusion.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

From the Sandy Corner block of Blewitt Springs’ Wait vineyard. There’s a charming blue fruit and floral engagement to this, so perfumed and expressive. Violet, iris, blueberry and boysenberry, black tea, iodine and iron, graphite and cigar ash. Such a nice wine, medium-ish in weight, but kind of weightless. A wine of place, intense, easy, but with import, too. Oh, and fine value. Drink by 2031.

The detail on these Juxtaposed labels are wine nerd heaven. From an unirrigated site, this Old Vine Shiraz blew my mind as it continued to get better and better over a few days of tasting. It deserves the 95 beside its name.
From the Sandy Corner Block of the Wait Vineyard, the 55 year old vines stretch their feet into the soils of the ancient Maslin Sands.
Dark plums and a basket of red and blue fruit greet you alongside a fistful of mulberries. There is a ribbon of caramel that is consistent with the Old Vine Grenache 2023 - both wines come off the Wait Vineyard. Let it breathe and it opens its arms with a welcoming embrace. A touch of minerality peers through, as do some iron filing notes. Fruit bun and Christmas cake spices keep a neat tempo with dusty and fine tannins having the last word. Sunday roasts and char grills are right in its line of sight. An excellent drink for $33.
