2023 Henschke Marble Angel Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Barossa Valley, South Australia, AUSTRALIA
A refined. Medium bodied Cabernet that’s generously endowed with blackcurrant and mulberry fruits.
Dense pitch black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Delightful aromatics of blackcurrant, mulberry and black olive show good lift followed by some cedary tobacco, earth, bay leaf and spice notes. Medium bodied, the refined palate is generously endowed with blackcurrant and mulberry fruits which meld into a complex back drop of dusty vanillin cedar, tobacco, subtle black olive and spice. Structured yet seamlessly integrated tannins finishing long and elegant.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews….
100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Light Pass sub-region in the Barossa Valley, which was planted in the early 1970s. Maturation was in French oak hogsheads for seventeen months, 13% of which were new. Dark mauve, this is still very youthful and perhaps a little closed. The nose exhibits aromas of chocolate, black fruits, delicatessen meats, a hint of orange rind, florals, cold tea and mulberries. There is serious underlying power here, good concentration throughout, with excellent balance at every stage. A line of juicy acidity runs the length, and serious length it is. A wine with so much promise, enjoy this over the next fifteen years and possibly longer. When it really kicks into gear, it will be something special. Drink 2026-2041.

This single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon was grown on a vineyard (planted in the 1970s) at Light Pass in the Barossa Valley.
The 2023 vintage is considered excellent but such ratings don’t count for much if it’s not reflected in the glass. In the case of this Henschke Marble Angel Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, the glory of the season is 100% reflected. A stash of this in your cellar would be a very precious thing. The weave of tannin through this wine is so intricate that it’s almost worth the price of admission in itself; especially though because the body of this wine is so well fleshed with blackcurrant, green olives, cedarwood, licorice and choc-cream flavours. There’s a keen momentum to this wine and it carries all the way through to the long run of the finish. It’s medium in weight but the quality here is more than impressive; it’s outstanding.
