2023 Greenock Creek Mataro
Barossa Valley, South Australia, AUSTRALIA
Rich, opulent and mouth filling with slightly chewy tannins.
Dense midnight black dark red colour with a deep dark red hue. Heady dark to black plum, black cherry and liquorice aromas make their way out of the glass followed by smoky vanillin cedar, earth and spicy dried herb notes. Rich and opulently textured, the mouth filling palate features dark to black plum, liquorice and black cherry fruits. Scorched earth, spicy vanillin cedar and peppered dried herb elements sit in the background. Possessing excellent concentration it has ripe, slightly chewy tannins and a long plumpish finish.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews….
A Seppeltsfield-sourced mataro, one whose depth of fruit while retaining a sense of energy and freshness has certainly won me over, and I'm sure I won't be alone. Ripe blue and black fruits, packed with the characteristic mataro spice and an underlying seam of garrigue, along with fine, toothsome tannins and a bright finish that flows beautifully. Drink by 2035.
