2023 Figli Luigi Oddero Langhe Nebbiolo
Piedmont, ITALY
Juicy red fruits backed by chiselled tannins and energetic acidity which impart a muscular feel.
This is 100% La Morra fruit from estate vineyards in the Santa Maria Cru, just in front of the winery. Organically grown mid-hillside at around 250–300 metres in typical marl and sandy soils. 2023 was a tough vintage for winemakers, with yields down significantly. Grapes were hand harvested with strict selection. Crushed and destemmed, fermented with native yeasts. Ageing in steel and large-format oak.
Red to dark red colour with black shaded edges and a rusty red tinged hue. Fragrant scents of rose petals, red currant and red cherry intermingle with dusty earth, tobacco and spicy dried herbs. Juicy red cherry, red liquorice and red currant fruits are backed by chiselled tannins and energetic acidity which impart a muscular feel. Dusty earth, tobacco, dried herb and spice elements linger across the back half. Nervy and tense it has a bright, rustic red fruited finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
