2023 Domaine Pernot Pere et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin (375ml)

Domaine Pernot Pere et Fils is rising producer in the Côte de Nuits, historically rooted in the village of Brochon, just north of Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate, formally established in 1900, is now led by the ambitious fourth-generation winemaker, Pascal Pernot. Since taking over in 2018, Pascal has quickly elevated the domaine's reputation by championing a philosophy of vineyard purity, working hard to progress the vineyards to a sustainable viticulture while slowly implementing aspects of biodynamics. A key point of difference is his commitment to early picking to ensure the wines retain freshness and natural acidity, providing structural elegance and longevity. Fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts, and the elevage is handled judiciously with a mix of traditional barrels and larger demi-muids.

From the northern end of the appellation, Champerrier, En Derée, En Croisotte. Intense purple in colour, all destemmed. 20% new wood. The aromatics are on the cusp of strawberry and raspberry. A bit more extraction but this has worked really well. In the mouth, the raspberry side dominates while the acidity and tannins provide structure. Drink from 2027-2032.
