2023 Blue Poles Reserve Cabernet Franc
An elegant mid weighted Cabernet Franc with juicy red fruits and a bright, refined conclusion.
Deep dark red black tinged colour with a vibrant red to dark red hue. Ripe red currant and red liquorice aromas sail through the olfactory senses followed by some spicy cedar, hints of dusty earth, tobacco and subtle bay leaf notes. The elegant mid weighted palate features juicy red currant and red cherry fruits over a subtle red liquorice, vanillin cedar, earth and spicy dried herb back drop. Fresh underlying acidity and finely boned tannins with a bright, refined conclusion.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 13.4%
Other Reviews…..
The Blue Poles Reserve Merlot is a wine for the patient, and perhaps, one for the aesthetes among us, whereas this Cabernet Franc brings the noise. And I’d have to say, that’s maybe a topsy turvy thing given the grape varieties in play.
This is dark and powerful, blue and black fruit, cocoa powder, some redcurrant crunch, five spice and perfume, something of a roast red capsicum thing here that leans into varietal correctness. It’s medium to full-bodied, plenty of thick sweet graphite tannin grip, something of an exotic curry spice element, fresh acidity, and a finish of quite some amplitude and length, lavish bitter dark chocolate tannin and black tea perfume to close. Feels cool in the mouth, but it’s such a delicious warm ride all the same. Fair play to Blue Poles – they’ve knocked it out of the park with this release. Drink 2026-2035+
