2022 Shaw & Smith Shiraz
Deep pitch black core with a dark red purple hue. Spicy plum, liquorice and blueberry scents blossom from the glass complexed by dried clove, smoked meats and peppered earth notes. Rich yet refined and savoury, dark to black cherry, red plum, liquorice and blueberry fruits flood the medium to full bodied palate over a blackpepper infused back drop of dried clove, earth and smoked meats. Showing ample freshness, flesh and energy it has fine grained tannins that impart a structural, almost muscular like feel. Concludes long, deeply fruited, peppery and savoury.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews….
A power of fruit and a power of spices. This is an excellent release. Sweet plums, smoked meats, black peppers and an array of cedar, bunchy herbs, stalk and toast characters. Tannin curls impressively through the back half of the wine; it feels both plush and fresh throughout; and while it’s definitely peppery (and floral) it’s the plummy, boysenberried fruit flavours that drive it. This is bang on excellent. Drink 2025-2036+
