2022 RieslingFreak No. 12 Flaxman Valley Riesling
Brilliant water like core with highlights of green around the edges. Intense lime and citrus aromas are complimented by orange rind, talc, hints of green apple and minerals. Racy lime and lemon fruits are underscored by searing acidity with Granny Smith apple, wet steel, chalky talc and flinty mineral elements lingering on the dry zingy finish that’s taut, focused and steely.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Flaxman Valley is the quarry for this expression. It's a savoury riesling, stony, dry and highlighted with gentle but omnipresent cashew savouriness and briny acidity. Complex, individual and distinct with a perfume of green apple, frangipani, sea spray and cashew. Flavours echo this character list, albeit the wine is a little loose-knit in the nicest sense and bolstered with that attractive briny, minerally acid profile. The finish shows a lick of that nuttiness and yeasty savouriness. It's an excellent offering. Drink in the vigour of youth. Drink by 2030.
