2022 Nicks Secret PE STYN Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
This Nicks Secret Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon is from one of the region’s leading family owned producers. Established in 1988 they have a wine making history that dates back to 1844. Crafted by the 2024 James Halliday’s Wine Companion’s winemaker of the year, whose impressive resume includes stints at Wirra Wirra, Seppelt and Punt Road, this is a classic expression of Coonawarra Cabernet. At less than a third of it’s original price it represents incredible value.
Rich and powerful yet beautifully refined, this is a serious Coonawarra Cabernet.
Dense pitch black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Engulfing the olfactory senses are intense ripe blackcurrant and mulberry scents which are complimented by some cigar box, liquorice, earthy black olive, dried herb and spice notes. Medium to full bodied, the palate is layered end to end with rich blackcurrant, ripe mulberry and to a lesser extent liquorice fruits. Lending further complexity are notions of spicy vanillin cedar, tobacco, subtle earthy black olive and infusions of bay leaf. Seamlessly built and powerful, it has perfectly integrated tannins and a long, beautifully refined conclusion.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.

Other Reviews….
There is a forest of fruits, exotic spice, kirsch, blood plums and bilberries. But the spices draw you in and keep your palate captivated. Star anise, black mustard seed and nigella. Charred ancho chillies and a hint of yeast extract. It's laden with interest and the pillars of structure to age like a dream. Acidity is ethereal, so fine, and maintains the flavour right to the long final tunes. Some burdock root and mace, too. Truly a unique and fascinating wine. Drink by 2036.
