2022 Maxwell Lime Cave Cabernet Sauvignon
Medium to full bodied with rich blackcurrant fruit dominant.
Midnight black in colour with a dark red hue. Expressive blackcurrant and mulberry aromas are trailed by some cedary tobacco, black olive, dusty earth and bay leaf notes. Rich blackcurrant fruits dominate the medium to full bodied palate with mulberry, dusty vanillin cedar, tobacco, black olive and spicy dried herb elements lining the back half. Fine grained yet sturdy tannin structure with a relatively elegant medium to long conclusion.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Other Reviews….
Made from estate vines planted in 1972 above the tunnel dug into the limestone a century ago to grow mushrooms. That’s another story. This spent 18 months in French oak, with about 15% new. There’s a savoury elegance to this, while also having intensity and power. Cedar and currant, cassis and mulberry, tobacco leaf and briary herbal notes. It’s a little up from mid-weight, composed and with a serious core of tannin. This promises to mellow well with age, with a charming old-school ‘claret’ feel to it. Drink by 2034.
