2022 Domaine Sylvain Pataille Marsannay Blanc
Sylvain Pataille has been instrumental in raising the profile of Marsannay since founding his domaine in 1999. Farming around 17 hectares biodynamically, he works with a remarkable diversity of sites, from old-vine Pinot Noir to rare Aligoté Doré and Pinot Beurot, and is known for sensitive, terroir-driven élevage with a high proportion of whole bunches. His work has been central to the ongoing push for premier cru recognition in Marsannay, and his wines are frequently cited as reference points for the appellation. They combine clarity and lift with impressive depth, proving that Marsannay belongs firmly among the most serious terroirs of the Côte de Nuits.
This Marsannay Villages comes from five parcels including Les Larreys, Clos du Roy and En Blungey, as well as fruit from newly planted vines in Couchée. The oldest vines in the cuvée date from 1949. It’s fermented and aged for 18 months in 600-litre barrels, and Pataille uses a little new oak.
Other Reviews....
Firm reduction overshadows the fruit today though there is good freshness to the sleek, racy and delineated middle weight flavors that possess slightly better complexity on the super-refreshing, clean and bracingly dry finale. This should also drink well young or with 2 to 3 years of cellaring. Drink through 2026+.

The 2022 Marsannay Blanc is a blend of several parcels. It was fairly reduced on the nose when I encountered it. The palate is more promising—much more—finely balanced with perfectly judged acidity, tangible mineralité, and a delicacy on the finish that I appreciate. Give it 12 months once in bottle. Drink 2025-2033.

Paler in colour and with a notably reductive nose, which does some good given the creamy note behind. Plenty of energy, medium bodied, lacks a bit of individuality but clearly well made, with a mineral finish helped by the reduction. The finish is the best bit. Drink from 2025-2028.
