2022 Domaine de Villaine Les Clous Aime Bourgogne Cote Chalonnaise Blanc
Domaine de Villaine, nestled in the village of Bouzeron in the Côte Chalonnaise, is renowned for crafting elegant, terroir-driven wines. Founded by Aubert de Villaine, co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, the estate focuses on organic viticulture and minimal intervention, producing standout expressions of Aligoté Doré, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. Aubert de Villaine handed over management to his nephew Pierre de Benoist in 2000, with Pierre passionate about rediscovering the identity of the Côte Chalonnaise as a whole and of Bouzeron in particular. These wines embody purity, precision, and a deep respect for Burgundy’s traditions.
Other Reviews....
Chardonnay grown in Bouzeron, and given the same vinification as the Aligoté. Chardonnay is thickening its skins in these warmer times, enabling Pierre to work with the bitter notes of the skin in the face of lower acidity. Pale colour with a light green tint. Fascinating perfume, actually more interesting than the Bouzeron I find. You can see the bitters to come, along with a floral top note and a white orchard fruit core. There is a lot happening in this wine, with a delicious light biscuit note adding further complexity. Ripe at 13% but correctly so, and finishes by leaving a fresh taste in the mouth. Drink from 2026-2030. Tasted Apr 2024.
