2022 Deep Woods Estate Shiraz Et Al

Shiraz, Malbec, and Tempranillo grapes were harvested and processed separately with some Shiraz fermented as whole bunches. After 12-14 days of fermentation, the wine was pressed and transferred to French oak barrels, 15% of which were new, and aged for 6-9 months before blending.
A blend of Shiraz, Malbec and Tempranillo. Deep midnight black core with a vibrant dark red black tinged hue. Lifted black cherry and liquorice aromas are married to toasty vanillin cedar, earth and peppered dried meat notes. Rich and lush the palate is swamped with black cherry, liquorice and blackberry fruits which meld into a scorched earth, vanillin cedar and peppered dried meat back drop. Ripe chewy tannins with a slightly muscular yet deeply fruited conclusion.
Cellar 5-6 years.

The 'et al' here are malbec and tempranillo, so this is a spicy, savoury and juicy red. It is immediately appealing with dark red fruits mixed with red licorice and warm spices. Fuller bodied but not weighty, with grainy tannins and an appealing rusticity. Drink by 2032.
