Sourced from six blocks within the Yangarra estate, approximately 50% of the vines are located on sand and 50% on ironstone. Fruit was destemmed and selectively sorted with 50% whole berries. Maturation took place on lees in 25% new French oak puncheons with the remainder 1 to 3 year puncheons for a period of 12 months.

A superb combination of richness, power and finesse.

Impenetrable inky black heart with a deep dark red black hue. Leaping out of the glass are freshly crushed blackberry, liquorice and dark plum scents infused with blackpepper followed by some vanillin cedar, subtle graphite and dried meat notes. Rich yet not heavy, the beautifully proportioned palate is flush with opulent blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits. Notions of spicy vanillin cedar, subtle dried herb, graphite, dried meat and peppered earth the undercurrent. Sturdily structured it nonetheless has a seamlessly integrated fine grained matrix of tannins. Understated in its power and possessing a youthful freshness, it finishes with tremendous length and refinement.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 14%

Other Reviews….
From the Blewitt Springs single-vineyard estate on sand and ironstone soils. It wasn't entirely a surprise that McLaren Vale's first-among-equals winery should have made this gorgeously succulent wine, but I couldn't help but consulting the thesaurus to be sure 'succulent' covered the field. The entry reads: 'juicy, moist, luscious, soft, tender, mouth-watering, appetising, flavoursome, tasty, delicious.' Drink by 2051.
