2021 Nicks Secret PE STYN Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon

This Nicks Secret Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon is from one of the region’s leading family owned producers. Established in 1988 they have a wine making history that dates back to 1844. Crafted by the 2024 James Halliday’s Wine Companion’s winemaker of the year, whose impressive resume includes stints at Wirra Wirra, Seppelt and Punt Road, this is a rich yet sturdily built expression of Coonawarra Cabernet. At less than a third of it’s original price it represents incredible value.

Richly fruited and concentrated with a firm tannin structure imparting a robust feel.

Magnificent depth of colour featuring an impenetrable inky black core and a deep dark red black tinged hue. Intense blackcurrant, ripe mulberry and cedary tobacco aromas are complimented by earthy black olive, subtle bay leaf and spice notes. Rich, concentrated and densely packed, it carries medium to full body weight, the palate engulfed with blackcurrant and mulberry fruits. Firmly structured, robust tannins impart a muscular feel across the back half. Vanillin cedar, tobacco, earthy black olive and spice characters lie underneath. Long tannic finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews…..
Matured 18 months in French oak, 30% new. The fruit is in full bloom and the tannin is firm and substantial. It still manages to have plenty of length. This is another cracking release under this label. Blackcurrant, gum leaf, cedar and violets, with peppercorns and plums filling it out. There's more than a little 'wow' to this. It feels fresh too, in a good way. It's excellent. Drink by 2042.
