Super saturated glass staining colour featuring an inky black heart along with an equally deep black dark purple hue. Potent dark plum, liquorice and blackberry aromas are overlaid with prominent toasty vanillin cedar notes. Notions of scorched earth, dried meats, dark chocolate and peppered fennel are also evident. With time in the glass the oak component becomes more integrated. Decadently rich and densely textured, the full, exuberant palate is awash with opulent dark plum, liquorice and blackberry fruits. Superb power with silky smooth tannins seamlessly integrated. Smoky vanillin cedar, fennel, dark chocolate, clove and spice characters evolve through the back half. Concludes very long, plush and seductive. Give it a few more years for the oak to fully integrate.
Cellar 10-15 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews…..
The 2021 Kraehe Shiraz is juicy and supple, spicy and fleshy ... it's sybaritic in its way. The width and expansion of the wine in the mouth doesn't stop through the finish; it continues to layer and build. There is raspberry and pomegranate, pink peppercorn, star anise and roast beef crust, a satisfying splay of red earth and caper brine and tobacco, and there's an attractive malty biscuity character laced through the wine; it's highly attractive, and I assume it's oak derived. It works well with the fruit. A dramatic wine. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork. Drink 2024-2046.
