2021 Morgante Nero d'Avola

The Morgante family has been growing Nero d'Avola for five generations, but it was only in 1994 that Antonio Morgante, encouraged by sons Carmelo and Giovanni, decided to vinify their own grapes for the first time. In 1997 they were joined by winemaker Riccardo Cotarella who shared the Morgante passion for producing great red wines from Nero d'Avola. The vineyards are planted at 450-550 metres above sea level, bask in the Mediterranean sun during the day and are cooled by moderating sea breezes at night. Matured for just 3 months in old barriques, this Nero d’Avola is widely considered as benchmark for its price/quality ratio.
Deep midnight black dark red colour with a bright purple dark red hue. Wafting out of the glass are intense black and morello cherry aromas which sit alongside some liquorice, choc orange, earth and cinnamon notes. Rich luscious dark to black cherry, liquorice and morello cherry fruits engulf the mouth underpinned by energetic acidity and slightly grippy tannins which together impart a youthfully inky yet juicy feel. Excellent concentration with some earth, dried herb, cinnamon and vanillin spice elements lending further nuance. Concludes long, fresh and juicy yet chewy with a lingering choc orange accent.
