Lost Farm Wines is a cool climate winemaking project of the Angove Family. The name ‘Lost Farm’ comes from the historic loss of the original Angove Family Farm, known by locals as simply “the Farm”. In the 1970’s government bureaucrats rezoned the land from agricultural use to residential resulting in its compulsory acquisition. With the stroke of a pen, the family’s best vineyards were lost.
2021 was a terrific vintage for Chardonnay in Tasmania. The fruit for this wine comes from two vineyards in the Tamar Valley, one just south of Launceston and the other more northerly on the Tamar River. Fermentation occurred in French oak puncheons and hogsheads, where the wine weas left to mature for 9 months.
Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Delightful nectarine, pear, dried honey and cashew aromatics sail out of the glass intermingling with biscuit, nougat and subtle gun flint notes along the way. A marriage of refinement and richness, the mid weighted palate is amply endowed with pear, nectarine and dried honey flavours. Spicy cashew, biscuit, citrusy nougat and gun flint elements lend further nuance. Fresh acidity with a long, elegant Burgundian like finish. Winner of 3 trophies and multiple gold medals.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Other Reviews….
Cool-climate chardonnay sourced from the Tamar Valley. Pale straw in the glass with a striking nose of juicy white peach, citrus and nectarine fruits underscored by dreamy, cashew-like French oak, white flowers, oatmeal, almond paste and stone. Tight, scintillating acidity provides a vital pulse and the wine finishes with impressive clarity and detail. Fans out beautifully with a textural, light-phenolic tweak and a lovely white peach, citrus and roasted nut flourish. Drink by 2029.
